RE: Not evacuating from hurricane, questions

I live in earthquake country. If I had notice that one would hit day after tomorrow I would have the 5th wheel 300 miles from here in a flash. If they told you there was a 50% chance that a magnatude 4-6 earthquake would hit, would you have a different opinion? Cat 1 hurricanes aren't as life threating (to those with sturdy houses) as one might think.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

Yes. Vendors determine their own Supply curve, just as consumers determine their own Demand curve. That's the nature of the Economic Game. However, there is NOTHING to explain why the price has jumped so rapidly, unless you supply to the price gouging theory. If "Big Oil" isn't simply jacking the prices way up, then it has to be something else. Speculators in the commod. market does fit with all the known facts.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

The proximate 'cause' of the rapid movement of the equilibrium point toward higher prices was that vendors shifted the Supply curve toward higher prices HOW did they accomplish this "shift"? Are you saying that the "vendors" simply raised the price?

RE: BEWARE !! CAMPING WORLD ADS

"advertised price of $1659 stating this included the hitch, baseplate, accessory pack and installation to be able to pull my TOAD" ...reminds me of what is called bait and switch. Yes, and I would insist the money be refunded or I'd take them to small claims court.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

Did you post Boxers post somewhere? I'd like to read it. Sorry, it was Senator Dianne Feinstein: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21439818/gotomsg/21763790.cfm#21763790 'supply and demand' is not a deterministic relationship. Each of 'supply' and 'demand' have separate price/unit relations and the Equilibrium Point is what the market seeks. Many factors can shift the curves or change their slopes. This isn't a shift in prices or a change of slopes. It is a DOUBLING of pricing. What caused that extremely rapid DOUBLING of prices?

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

WRONG on both counts. Speculators ONLY can control prices when supply is too close to demand. And, pray tell, how do you plan on controlling off shore oil markets? No sir, you are wrong. Everything fits too well to be mere coincidence. There is no other reason for the recent surge, and the recent changes in the commodity trading rules make it far easier for speculators. I just don’t believe in that many coincidences. My post from Senator Boxer (even thou I am not a fan of hers) outlines it fairly well, including how to control the London trading. You don’t mention in your post was the cause of the recent doubling of the price is caused from. It can’t be supply and demand as supply Is up slightly and demand is down slightly.

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

All we can do is grant leases to foreigners who MAY drill sometime in the future at their convenience, which is not expected to be before 20 years, and the price reduction will be NEGLIGIBLE. Since it's speculators that are driving the prive up simply awarding drilling contracts COULD have a HUGE impact on prices. But, controlling the speculators would be a more direct, and better, approach.

RE: What Are You Doing in My Campsite? - Long Post

I had my first real experience with a rude camper last time out. It was encouraged by the site design itself. The bath house was right alongside our site. You basically had to walk into our site to get into the men's room. I moved the picnic table over so that people would have a larger path to the door. Everyone but one person were very polite. One guy comes up with his dog and ties him to our picnic table (I wasn't there for this). My wife and daughter arrive to find the dog. She decides to not let them chase her out of our site and sits at the opposite end of the table. The dog starts barking loudly and the guys comes out, hushes the dog and GOES BACK IN! After a few trips back and forth he finally gets the idea and leaves with the dog. It's a good thing for him (maybe everyone :W ) that I wasn't there. I wouldn't have been polite or diplomatic when insisting he take his dog somewhere else. Otherwise I met lots of VERY nice people that trip. One lady saved the whole trip when we broke down (small oil leak became a huge oil leak) and she drove me, eventually to “Larry's house”, to get oil. Nice fellow campers all around us also. :B

RE: Be Careful Driving Through PA

Unfortunately what your are doing is in the eyes of the IRS an incoming producing activity (i.e. "commercial") even if it's at a loss since you admit... Nope, IRS considers it a hobby, NOT a business. Just try and write off the losses against your other income and you'll see what I mean.

Now -- whenever posting a picture becomes a simple procedure, I'll contribute. have you tried photobucket? I find it easy. Not as easy as hosting them here, but I understand why they don't do that. www.photobucket.com

RE: Bad WalMart Campers

I personally think that all overnite camping at Wally World, and any other place that allows it, be stoped. Park in a RV Park overnite. A bunch of cheap scates looking for a free ride, as far as I'm concerned. And after all, everyone should use their RVs the way you think they should. Those boondockers in the desert should be stopped also, they aren't in a CG either. Why do you want to control others who aren't hurting anyone?

RE: Need toilet that "flushes" better!

BTW, if you pull (or push of you have a foot peddle) just a little you should be able to add water to bowl without flushing. After flushing make sure you have enough water in the bowl to at least cover the bottom.

I'm sure glad some of you are not incharge of making the rules. I am surprised by how many people think they can define MY activities.

RE: Are you ready for solar powered cold air?

I mention swamp coolers not because they are new or hitech. It's just that I recently discovered that they make one for an RV. They really do work well, under the right conditions. Boondocking in the desert it a perfect fit, and that is a popular activity. However, I've never heard of anyone mentioning that they use one. And inline with the op, you can make cool air with solar power! P.S. No more 90/90 for me. ;)

RE: What’s with the smudge pots? (Rant)

I'm surprised anyone would condone leaving a fire smoldering, esp. during the day. I like a camp fire as well as anyone. It's one of the things we look for in a CG. However, I've never understood why some leave them going when they aren't there. There are much better products that a smokey fire to keep the skeeters down. :W

RE: Are you ready for solar powered cold air?

Go back and look at the video link. It's just a fan jury-rigged to give you some evaporative A/C. Yes, that's a swamp cooler. I have experience with them in cooling a 2600 square foot house. The cooler was located in probably the worse room possible to get air flow to the whole house. It had no problem keeping the house in the 70s when it was in the 90s outside. Worked well when the temp exceeded 100 also. Now, this was in CA (Napa) and the relitive humitity is probably in single digits. But even when it creeped up to 25% or so, it still works well. Since ALL my camping is done in low humitity areas it would work for me. However, right now we almost always have at least electric. When we don't, A/C isn't as important. But, for those that boondock in the desert, these would work well. :D
